Hi
I joined the forums as the elections got going this year, seems quite a nice place. I'm not a member of any political party and try to be as objective as possible in my assessment of them, though do consider myself a liberal (small "l"). So hi! :D

If you're trying to be objective, I'm intrigued to hear your take on the distinction between the Liberal Party (to which this forum is dedicated) and the Liberal Democrats (to which it fairly clear is not dedicated).

I think the Liberal Party can afford to be more radical than the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats are more towards the centre ground. There are policy differences between the two parties but there are also areas the two agree on. I think there is room enough for the Liberals to exist outside the Liberal Democrats, if only to offer a slightly different view of liberalism. I guess a comparison could be drawn with Conservatives and UKIP, Labour and the thirty thousand socialist splinter parties that exist in the UK.
