Local by-election in Bournemouth (1st May 2008)
Bill Brandwood, who is a member of this forum, will be standing as Liberal candidate in a local council by-election in Bournemouth. The by-election is on 1st May, the same date as council elections across the country. Bill is standing in Queen's Park ward, which he used to represent as a LibDem councillor. Here's the nomination statement: http://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/Library/PDF/Residents/Electionsandvoting/Statements%20of%20Persons%20Nominated.pdf Brandwood, Bill (Liberal Party) Carlile, Mike (Liberal Democrats) Goff, Mike (Labour and Co-Operative Party) Hughes, David Norman (UK Independence Party) Johnson, Cheryl Anne (Conservative Party) Mayne, Chris (Independent) Good luck, Bill!

By-Election Bournemouth
Hi Guys, Well I came last with 67 votes, which shows that people are voting for the party not the person in Bournemouth. All the Libdems could do was urge everyone to vote Lib-Dem to stop the Tory. No positive reason or policies on show! Anyway although it is quite a knock back I am not dispirited. I do though think it is VITAL for the Liberal Party to have a decent National Web site as this is where people are referred to. Some things remaining on it are 1. A gift to our opponents 2. A positive inducement for interested folks NOT to join our party With lack of finance the web site is the most effective way of gaining supporters. We need new people as when our existing cllrs gradually retire we will die as a party!

I think now its time for change
Our party NEC is too out of touch, too interested in keeping their own seats in the wards, than raising the profile of the whole party nationally, THE WEBSITE. What is the good of Stephen Radford 72.5% of the vote in his ward, when across the county we have supported our candidates in little way at all. I will be trying to find a potential candidate challenge Stephen at the Assembly for party president. Karl-James Langford
