Standing for local elections: how?
If I wanted to stand for local elections in my area, what do I need to know and do? Also, can I stand as `Liberal Party` or must I be an Independent (or even `Independent Liberal`?) Thank you. John

You need to ask your local council. Announce your intention to stand. You're too late for this year, nominations have closed. You can stand as an Independent, and you can probably use the term "Independent Liberal" as your description. You can only stand as the Liberal Party candidate if you get the official Liberal Party Nominating Officer to sign it off for you. If you set up a branch, you can probably become the local Deputy Nominating Officer and authorise yourself to use the description.

Hi John, and welcome to the forum! Yes, I think nominations for the May 1st local elections closed at the end of March. The Nominating Officer for the Liberal Party is called Jenny Roach, and she's probably the person to get in touch with first of all. Should I dig out her email address for you? If you are interested in running for future elections I'm sure she'd be interested to hear from you.
