I've just realised that this year is the 150th anniversary of the first publication of John Stuart Mill's On Liberty.
I understand that On Liberty was long considered such an important expression of Liberal Party values that a copy of it was passed from one President of the party to the next as a kind of badge of office. Apparently this still happens in the LibDems - does anyone know if this is true of the Liberal Party as well?
Given the central place of this little book in Liberal history, has the Liberal Party any plans to celebrate the anniversary? |
